The Tritone Paradox – Int. Piano

INTERMEDIATE PIANO SOLO

by Tom Gerou

The Tritone Paradox is a witty and imaginative piano solo built around the distinctive sound of the tritone. Set at a lively swing tempo, the piece combines a stride-style left hand, dominant seventh chords, and parallel tritone patterns to create a colorful sound world that feels jazzy, quirky, and immediately engaging.

Inspired by the musical illusion for which it is named, the piece explores how the same interval can seem to move upward or downward depending on perception. This gives students a unique opportunity to connect aural awareness with keyboard technique while developing a stronger sense of harmonic color.

With its rhythmic character and unusual intervallic focus, The Tritone Paradox is an effective choice for recitals, studio performance, and Intermediate pianists developing rhythmic feel, chordal control, coordination, and creative musical interpretation.
