Square Wheels – Early Elem. Piano

by Tom Gerou

EARLY ELEMENTARY PIANO SOLO

With Lyrics and Optional Teacher Accompaniment

Square Wheels is a quirky and playful Early Elementary piano solo built around a blues progression. Its humorous lyrics and offbeat character give young pianists an entertaining introduction to rhythmic style, while finger patterns 2-3-4 and simple hands-together playing keep the technique accessible.

Students explore blocked intervals of a 3rd and tritone, along with broken C and D major triads. The piece also introduces flats, naturals, slurs, and staccato, giving developing pianists opportunities to strengthen articulation, interval recognition, coordination, and keyboard awareness.

With its whimsical theme, catchy rhythmic feel, and optional teacher accompaniment, Square Wheels makes an engaging choice for lessons, recitals, and studio performances while building confidence and musical expression.
