Sequoia Gigantea – Int. Piano

INTERMEDIATE PIANO SOLO

by Tom Gerou

Sequoia Gigantea is a powerful piano solo inspired by the grandeur and scale of towering redwoods. Written for the Intermediate pianist, the piece features bold blocked triads in all inversions and parallel motion across the keyboard, creating a broad, resonant sonority.

Set in C major and common time, the music incorporates expressive portato—staccato under a slur—along with dramatic crescendos and diminuendos. These elements help students develop chordal control, voicing, balance, tone production, and confidence in large-scale keyboard movement.

With its expansive character and commanding sound, Sequoia Gigantea is an effective choice for recitals, festivals, studio performance, and Intermediate pianists developing stronger technical control and expressive depth.
