Saturnine – Int. Piano Solo

INTERMEDIATE PIANO SOLO

by Tom Gerou

Saturnine is a deeply expressive and introspective piano solo inspired by the somber, reflective character of the blues. Written in A–A′–Coda form, the piece centers on chromatic inflections that create a rich, melancholic atmosphere.

The study emphasizes two-part voicing in the left hand and finger legato, helping pianists develop smooth lyrical transitions, tonal control, and independence between musical lines. A moderate tempo allows space for subtle rhythmic shaping and carefully controlled phrasing.

With its blues-inspired harmonies and understated emotional character, Saturnine is an appealing choice for recitals, studio performance, and Intermediate pianists developing stronger voicing, balance, tonal control, and expressive interpretation.
