LATE ELEMENTARY PIANO SOLO
“Dandelion Seeds” dances through the air with lively energy and a touch of whimsy! Written in F major and triple meter, this Allegro solo captures the light, swirling motion of dandelion seeds drifting on the breeze. Its sparkling melody and buoyant rhythm give students the opportunity to explore musical freedom and expressive shaping.
Students encounter blocked intervals of 3rds, 5ths, 6ths, and 7ths, along with syncopated rhythms and hand crossings that keep the music flowing and engaging. Musical concepts such as crescendo, diminuendo, ritardando, and fermatas encourage phrasing and dynamic control. The piece also introduces fingered sustain and tasteful pedaling, reinforcing legato connections across wide intervals.
Rhythmic reading is strengthened through eighth, quarter, half, and dotted-half notes, while the D.C. al Coda form provides structure and a satisfying return of the main theme. The expressive shaping in “Dandelion Seeds” offers a beautiful balance of technical development and lyrical artistry—an ideal choice for recitals or festival performances.
