INSIGHTS & PIANO STUDY:
Preparation Level 1A
A New Piano Method Connecting Pedagogy, Performance, and Musical Development
Welcome to the INSIGHTS & PIANO STUDY Center.
INSIGHTS & PIANO STUDY is the result of careful design, collaboration, and focused application within the piano studio. Developed by Tom Gerou and Scott Price, the curriculum brings structure, clarity, and musical depth to the modern studio—beginning with the very first lesson and continuing to expand over time.
This Center offers a closer look at the architecture of the course: how lessons unfold, how concepts are developed and reinforced, and how pedagogy, performance, and musical growth connect within a unified system.

INSIGHTS Lessons — How the Course Works
INSIGHTS & PIANO STUDY 1A is now available and includes 26 carefully sequenced lessons. Early concepts may be combined within a single session, allowing flexible pacing while maintaining clarity.
Each two-page lesson spread in LEARN 1A introduces a clearly defined concept through a structured sequence: concept block, lesson objective, order of instruction, teacher modeling, student trial, and guided musical interaction. The left page anchors the student visually, while the right-facing “Insights” page provides the teacher with clear instructional language, sequencing, and duet integration.
CREATE 1A extends each lesson through structured improvisation, additional activities, and reinforcement assignments—allowing students to internalize sound before encountering formal labels.

Students begin making music immediately. From the first lesson, they establish steady pulse, play together, and develop awareness of keyboard geography. Early coordination and creative activity reinforce rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic understanding through direct experience.

The sequencing supports both deliberate pacing and accelerated progress, depending on the student’s readiness—without compromising the integrity of the course.

An Inclusive Design Philosophy
INSIGHTS & PIANO STUDY is designed as a truly inclusive mainstream method, supporting a full spectrum of learners—from those who move quickly through new material to those who benefit from guided reinforcement and repetition.
The course avoids potentially confusing directional language, instead relying on color cues, visual indicators, and implied movement. This allows flexibility across a wide range of ages, learning styles, and studio settings.
Through layered reinforcement and supplemental resources, the method serves young beginners, adult students, and learners who benefit from additional structure—without compromising the integrity of the curriculum. Students experience keyboard geography physically, develop coordination, explore sound creatively, and internalize musical concepts through direct engagement.

Inclusiveness is not an accommodation within INSIGHTS & PIANO STUDY—it is foundational to the design of the course itself.
INSIGHTS & PIANO STUDY extends learning beyond the immediate lesson sequence through thoughtfully designed supplemental materials that reinforce focus, posture, conceptual understanding, and creative engagement within the studio environment.
STUDIO 1A Toolkit:
INSIGHTS & PIANO STUDY extends learning beyond the lesson through physical reinforcement tools that help teachers guide focus, support posture, and extend concept work beyond the keyboard.

The STUDIO 1A Toolkit also supports hands-on exploration, movement, and concept reinforcement alongside the LEARN, CREATE, and GUIDE titles for each level.
From Exploration to Performance
INSIGHTS & PIANO STUDY moves students from improvisational discovery toward structured repertoire and formal performance. As concepts are internalized through modeling and duet interaction, they develop into patterned reading, recital literature, and long-term musical independence.

INSIGHTS & PIANO STUDY is designed as a unified progression, where pedagogy, performance, and musical development evolve together—intentionally and from the very beginning.
