Preludi d’intaglio

6 Artfully Crafted Preludes Etched in a Pleasant Style

by Karen Beecher

Intermediate

For the Piano

TGM00112

Preludi d’intaglio were composed after observing my students’ captivation with, and proclivity for, repertoire such as Burgmüller’s “Confidence,” Op. 109, No. 1, and Chopin’s “Prelude,” Op. 28, No. 1 in C major. In other words, pieces approximately 20 to 40 measures in length, with pleasing harmonic progressions and beautiful melodies. Pieces one to three pages in length, requiring a certain degree of technical proficiency, were not a daunting assignment, but rather a feasible goal to achieve. My desired result was to accomplish the same using contemporary harmonies and intriguing melodies. In performance, all six Preludi d’intaglio have individual merit. Therefore, they can be performed independently or together, in any sequence.
