Northern Lights

Northern Lights is composed using intervals of perfect 5ths in contrary motion and inverted between the hands. A simple lyrical phrase is repeated four times, each time with a slightly different treatment. Phrase 2 is transposed down a perfect 5th, Phrase 3 is arpeggiated, and Phrase 4 uses Phrase 1 RH with Phrase 2 LH to create new harmonies. A harmonically lush and refreshingly contemporary piece to study finger sustain and switching fingers on held notes.
